About Me
I am an attorney and certified public accountant (CPA) that specializes in tax. I work for a large accounting firm in Atlanta, GA. Specifically, I work with small business owners and high net worth individuals, or those on their way to becoming small business owners and high net worth individuals. Typical clients are involved in real estate, owners of service firms, and/or have complex tax situations involving foreign activities. Some clients may also have a family office.
Prior to becoming a CPA and focusing on tax, I practiced patent law for over 15 years with large intellectual property boutiques with offices throughout the Unites States and in Europe. During that time, I assisted clients ranging from single inventors to multinational companies obtain patents, both within the United States and throughout the world. Specifically, I worked extensively with clients in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications before both the Unites States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
My goal is to help small business owners and start-ups navigate the complex legal and financial landscape that can trip up those beginning their entrepreneurial journey. Far too often the legal and accountant aspects of starting and running a small business get overlooked. This is for at least two reasons. First, the entrepreneur is working tirelessly to get the business up and running. This is natural since the product or service is the person or team's passion. Second, the entrepreneur doesn't have an accounting or legal background and simply doesn't know what he or she doesn't know. This is natural too since accounting and law are not typical subjects taught in many educational programs.
It is not until a tax return is due that many new business owners reach out to a CPA. At this point it may be too late to take advantage of tax planning opportunities that may save the new business thousands, maybe even tens of thousands of dollars in both the near and long term. For services that my firm or I cannot provide, I tap into my vast network to help clients find the help they need.
I also enjoy writing about tax topics. See my blog for these writings. Note that the opinions and view expressed in my blog do not necessarily represent the opinions and views of my employer.
